Il va sans dire que , pour avoir un orange tout-à-fait pur, ilfallait dabord former un beau jaune, et lon y parvenait enteignant à une basse température sous linfluence de la craie.On procédait alors à la transformation de cette couleur en fai-sant passer les pièces à une température aussi basse que pourles roses, afin que la nuance ne prît pas ce ton brun qui diminueléclat de lorange, dans un bain de garance dAlsace , qui salitmoins que la garance dAvignon les parties blanches du tissu.Ce bain se composait de : 3 kil. de poudre pour chaque pièce 3/4 ,4k,350 de poudre pour chaque pièce 5/4. La durée de la teinture était subordonnée à la nuance quelon cherchait ; on la prolongeait dautant plus quon désiraitobtenir un déplacement plus complet du jaune et arriver ainsià une nuance orangée dun ton plus prononcé ; on rinçait alorset lon passait en son bouillant , autant pour aviver la couleurque pour purifier les parties blanches toujours un peu salies,surtout quand l
