Description
English: Civic welcome at Dover, England, probably December 1918. Field Marshal (Earl) Haig (1861-1928) listening as the Town Clerk of Dover (in a legal wig) reads an address of welcome watched by the Mayor (with a chain of office). A photographer can be seen in the background.

The return to England must have been a difficult time for Haig as, like all the men under his command, he adjusted to peacetime. He was involved in many official functions from Victory Parades to the unveiling of War Memorials.
