Summary

[edit]

Timelapse Video taken from Sherbrooke Québec on April 8, 2024 of the Total Solar Eclipse. The video was made from about 80 frames taken over 2 1/2 hours.

Keep an eye out for the:

  • initial partial eclipse phases
  • initial Diamond Ring
  • Baily’s Beads
  • motion of the Moon exposing prominences on the right side while covering up those on the left
  • beautiful Corona with the star Zeta Piscium towards the 8:30 position
  • final few frames of motion amongst the prominences
  • trailing Diamond ring, and
  • the final partial eclipses phases

Equipment Used:

  • SharpStar 61mm Refractor with focal reducer (rendering 275mm focal length at F4.5)
  • PlayerOne Uranus-C dedicated astrophotography camera with cooling back
  • iOptron SkyHunter Equatorial Mount
  • WiFi Control with SkySafari Pro 7
  • FireCapture 3.0 for acquisition software

Observing Conditions

  • Transparency: 5/5 before totality | 2/5 after totality (thin cirrus clouds crept in during the last 30 minutes of shooting)
  • Seeing: 1/5 before totality | 4/5 during and after totality (the 40 kph to 50 kph winds toppled our sunshade onto the telescope but died off completely minutes before totality)
