English: Torso of a Satyr
Boncompagni Ludovisi Collection. "Bigio" marble from Asia Minor. The sculpture represents a satyr or a centaur of the entourage of Dionysus, Dated to the 2nd Century AD, it was reworked in the 17th Century. Urn Boncompagni Ludovisi Collection, formerly in the Collection of Cardinal Giovanni Ricci of Montepulciano. Lunese marble. This urn for the ashes of the deceased, decorated with typical Roman motifs, once had a lid, now missing. It dates to the end of the 1st Century AD. Funerary Altar Boncompagni Ludovisi Collection, formerly in the Collection of Cardinal Giuliano Cesarini. Lunese marble. This altar of the 1st Century AD was restored in the 15th Century with the addition of a Christian inscription. Together with the urn and the satyr torso, it replicates the placement of these sculptures in the Ludovisi Gallery during the 19th Century. |
