Description Venne fatta edificare da Manuele I, da cui prende il nome lo stile, su progetto di Francisco de Arruda, per celebrare la scoperta della rotta per l'India da parte del navigatore portoghese Vasco de Gama. La torre, che al momento della costruzione era dentro il letto del fiume, ora si trova sulla terraferma sulla riva destra del Tago. Nel passato venne anche usata per l'esazione del pedaggio delle navi dirette nella città di Lisbona.
