Tomentellopsis Hjortstam Image location: UC Berkeley (University of California Berkeley), Berkeley, Alameda Co., California, USA Nhu Nguyen collected this with Else Vellinga near the UC football stadium under coastal live oak. and Pinus muricata. I’m tentatively calling this Lindtneria because of the cyanophilus globs in the basidia. I looked at Tomentellopsis briefly, but the spore ornamentation is too subtle and the presence of cystidia (assuming they really are cystidia) is not consistent. The lack of clamps seems to eliminate Trechispora. if I interpret the cystidia as cystidioles then there is president in Lindtneria and it keys to L. hydnoidea, but the spores are too small for that species 4-5 X 3-4 versus 7.5-9.5 X 7-9. The cyanophilus inclusions in the basidia are supposed to be the primarily, defining feature of Lindtneria, and this are weird enough that I’m leaning toward that genus, but if that is correct, its not a species that is in the European key.
