Un Intérieur de maison, qui n'offre que la simplicité de la nature. On y découvre, à gauche, un vieillard en vêtement d'hiver, assis sur un fauteuil, au coin de son feu, les mains croisées, et la tête appuyée sur le manteau de sa cheminée; à gauche, à quelque distance, sa femme ou sa domestique, file au rouet. Au bas des croisées, à l'extérieur, on voit une servante; plus loin, l'on aperçoit une fabrique frappée d'un coup de soleil, dont les rayons pénètrent à travers les fenêtres, et éclairent l'intérieur de la scène, mais avec une telle sagesse et un tel ménagement que cette lumière ne préjudicie en rien à l'effet général du clair obscur, ni à la tranquillité ni à l'harmonie mystérieuse du sujet.
