In the mid 1970s, in the last days of Steves Lumber Company, at 1820 Maury, in Houston, I briefly worked there. There will be more on that another time. In the office hung this old 10 x 47 panoramic photo that I had long coveted. When the property was to be sold, the buildings demolished, I was given the photo. There's a train on the left and several sailing vessels, among them three masted schooners and barques, like the Elissa. In the upper right is written: Timber Boom, Gulfport, Mississippi Compliments of Standard Export Lumber Co., Ltd. and in the lower right: The Haiuer Photo Co. Connaught No date is given, though the photo must date to the late in the nineteenth century. |
