Summary
[edit]DescriptionThorniedean House, Galashiels - geograph.org.uk - 1558941.jpg |
English: Thorniedean House, Galashiels. This house is included in the 1.93 hectare (4.77 acres) former Border College Campus site at Melrose Road, Galashiels. The college transferred all functions in April 2009 to a new campus at Netherdale 1398663 and according to the framework for the redevelopment of the site in the Scottish Borders Local Plan and Planning Brief, this Category C(S) listed building could be converted into flats. Thorniedean House was built in 1868 as a residential villa for the mill owner of Botany Mill in Galashiels. The house was used by a girl's school that was evacuated from Edinburgh during the Second World War and it became part of Galashiels Academy in 1949. It was used by the Council Assessors from 1975 to 1984 when Border College was formed. I attended classes in this building during my first two years of secondary school before the academy moved to a new building in the Gala House Policies in 1964 1250880.
