English: This way to Norwich. This view was taken from the bridge > 1586447 which takes Hickling Lane over the railway.
The Great Eastern Main Line (GE) is a major railway line connecting Liverpool Street station in London with destinations in east London and the East of England such as Ipswich and Norwich as well as several coastal resorts. In accordance with the British Railways 1955 Modernisation Plan the route was electrified at 6.25 kV AC,with the section between Liverpool Street and Southend Victoria completed in 1960. As a result of extensive testing the route was upgraded to 25 kV AC and electrification was extended to Norwich by 1986. In the same year the line was taken over by Network SouthEast with suburban and medium distance services being operated by First Great Eastern whilst the fast mainline services were run by Anglia Railways. All services are now operated by National Express East Anglia. |
