The slaughter of the buffaloes at a funeral ceremony in Tana Toraja, Sulawesi.

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The people of Tana Toraja believe that the more buffaloes are slaughtered at a funeral, the faster they will reach the afterlife, the so-called Puya. The funeral lasts four days. The big slaughtering ceremony takes place on day three. Their religion is called Aluk Tolodo, although a good half of the Toraja have converted to Christianity due to the Dutch colonial power.
