English: The site of All Saints Church. All Saints church was demolished in 1787 and the site where it once stood is now part of a private garden > 1634114. Apart from its Norman north doorway > 1634149 which was removed and can now be seen as St Mary's > 1634138 west doorway, no traces remain. Much of the material was used to repair local roads.
Extensive excavation of All Saints' showed seven constructional phases between 1100 and 1600. Finds include painted window glass, lead cames, floor and roof tiles, as well as objects from the graves and coffin furniture. Human bone analysis gives information on burials ranging from the early 11th to the 18th century. |
