Notes
Item description from the Sba website
It is one of the last large canvases that Signorini painted in Riomaggiore, a town on the Ligurian coast near La Spezia. A preparatory reticulated drawing of the painting (Signorini, Riomaggiore, 1942, plate VII, between pp. 20 and 21), bearing the annotation Riomaggiore 26 July 99, allows the exact dating of the work, referring its execution to the last stay of the painter in that locality. Among the numerous views by Signorini depicting the town, this one exhibited here is characterized by liveliness and descriptive precision.
