If the polypus be intra-uterine, ges-tation seldom occurs. In several such cases, whichhave occurred to the author, in married women, therewas no impregnation. In one case, a lady, who had been married for several years, without children, ilarge polypus was detected within the organ, ami re-moved; she soon after conceived, and did well. During gestation, polypi may exist, and continue tobe developed until the full period, without muchrent injury. In other cases, the irritation and thehemorrhage, which they usually excite, bring on abor-tion or premature labor. During labor, polypi may render the process tedious,difficult, or impracticable, according to their size; andsometimes they increase the exhaustion of the patient Pig. 107.

A hard, smooth tumoris found in the vagina, or within the cervix uteri,around which the finger can be completely passed,showing that no adhesions exist, except by its pedicleattached to the os uteri, or within the cavity of theorgan. It thus can be readily distinguished from allthe tumors which have been mentioned, and alsofrom fungous growths, cancerous, or other morbidproductions. The treatment, during gestation, must be regulated1 <y circumstances.
