English: Lance Cpl. Anthony Bello poses for a photo after being sprayed in the face with oleoresin capsicum, or OC spray, and running through a confidence course March 6 on Marine Corps Air Station Futenma, Okinawa, Japan. “It’s like someone lit a torch to my face,” he said. Bello and other Marines temporarily assigned to the security augment force on Marine Corps Installations Pacific-Marine Corps Base Camp Butler, Japan, were introduced to the visceral sensation of the irritant to understand its effects and how to operate if they were exposed while spraying an assailant. Bello is an Everett, Mass., native and a rifleman currently assigned to 4th Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force, under the unit deployment program.
