The soft bonesyield on walking, thus causing bowlegs.These children are very susceptible to dis-eases. They have an especial tendency toadenoids and enlarged tonsils. A rachiticchild should be hardened and protected,because of a tendency to tuberculosis inlater life. To harden a child, in addition to hygienicmeasures previously described, necessitatesgiving it food which is easily assimilated.Food which will build the bones andstrengthen the muscles. Cereals, such asoatmeal, cornmeal, wheatena, rice, and bar-ley, are bone-builders. Yolk of egg shouldbe added to these cereals. Meat and vege-tables may be given liberally.
