n the layers of the broad ligament, and was developed from aparovarian tubule. cords running in parallel lines from the hilum of the ovary to alongitudinal tubule lying parallel to the tube and immediatelybeneath it (Gartners duct). The tubules are lined with ciliatedepithelium. The parovarium is homologous with the vasa affer-entia and epididymis of the testis. It is composed of the persistentexcretory ducts of the Wolffian body. As a rule, there are twelve tubules. The tubule running parallel 29 450 SPECIAL DIAGNOSIS to the Fallopian tube and at right angles to the parovarian tubulesis the duct of Gartner, which in exceptional cases may be traced tothe vagina. Cysts arising from the parovarium, the so-called parovarian cysts,are of common occurrence. As the cyst develops the layers of themesosalpinx are unfolded, the tube is crowded upward and runsover the cyst, and the ovary is crowded downward. Parovarian cyst. The cyst is almost round, the wall is thin and transparent. There isbut a single cavity containing a watery fluid of low specific gravity. Covering the cyst is athin, vascular membrane which appears to form a part of the cyst wall. The vascularity ofthe cyst wall is a characteristic feature. The Fallopian tube is stretched over the cyst, andthe ovary is crowded to the side. obliterated. The wall of the cyst is at first thin and transparent,later thick and non-transparent. The epithelium lining the cyst iscolumnar and usually ciliated in the small cysts, while later theepithelium is stratified and flat. In the very large cysts the epithe-lium may wholly disappear through pressure.
