Description
English: The cosmic lotus Mahakala and the Ten Sikh Gurus.

Quote: "A twelve petalled cosmic lotus. At its centre is Sodhi Bhan Singh paying respects to Maha Kal and Maha Kali. The Guru, their wives and children are depicted in ten of the twelve surrounding petals. The remaining two petals house ancestral figures in the Sodhi’s guru lineage, Surajbans and Kashyap Rishi.

This loose folio was created by Miha Singh of Kashmir between 1839-1843.

Dasam Granth, Bachittar Natak, Ang 113-144, illustrates the origins of the Sodhi lineage up unti the times of the gurus." (quote from https://ramblingsofasikh.tumblr.com/post/12850888057/a-twelve-petalled-cosmic-lotus-at-its-centre-is)

Published in 'In the Master's Presence: The Sikhs of Hazoor Sahib' on pages 26–27. Description of the artwork from there: "OPPOSITE: This twelve-petalled 'cosmic lotus' shows at its centre Sodhi Bhan Singh worshipping Maha-Kal and Maha-Kali. The Sikh Gurus with their wives, children and followers, are shown in ten petals, while two others depict ancestral figures in the Sodhi's guru-lineage, Surajbans and Kashyap Rishi. This loose folio, painted by Miha Singh of Kashmir, was probably once appended to an Adi Guru Granth Sahib manuscript commissioned by the Sodhi around 1839-1843"
Date ca.1839–1843

This file has been identified as being free of known restrictions under copyright law, including all related and neighboring rights.

This tag is designed for use where there may be a need to assert that any enhancements (eg brightness, contrast, colour-matching, sharpening) are in themselves insufficiently creative to generate a new copyright. It can be used where it is unknown whether any enhancements have been made, as well as when the enhancements are clear but insufficient. For known raw unenhanced scans you can use an appropriate {{PD-old}} tag instead. For usage, see Commons:When to use the PD-scan tag.

Note: This tag applies to scans and photocopies only. For photographs of public domain originals taken from afar, {{PD-Art}} may be applicable. See Commons:When to use the PD-Art tag.
