In the Upper Mall lived Charlesthe Seconds neglected wife, Catherine of Bra-ganza, and Queen Annes physician, Dr. Rat-cliff. Sussex House was the residence ofMarryat, who filled it with sailor-like hospitalityand farce a la Theodore Hook.
