Description
Dr. Harvey Wiley of the Dept. of Agriculture and 'Pure food' stand together while Uncle Sam and 'bezoate of soda, with a cigarette in hand, look on. Dr. Wiley was accused by several of his colleagues of giving illegal compensation to a New York doctor for his expertise in food safety according to the July 13th New York Times, but some, like the cartoonist here, felt that his past actions and the political tint of the accusations would see him come through clean.
