But in particular it has revived again the speculations ofthe Athenian dramatists about the Divine Irony: the Ironywhich seems to laugh at human endeavour and human science,after encouraging man just to the point where he has con-ceived the hope that he can replace the gods and govern theworld by his own science or his own organisations without anyfurther help from them.
