Description |
English: The US battleships 'New York and 'Texas' off Rosyth Inscribed by the artist, 'Trial proof', lower left. On the left the nearest two ships are the United States battleships 'New York' (1912) and 'Texas' (1912) of the 6th Battle Squadron of the Grand Fleet, after the USA entered the First World War. The British battle-cruiser on the right is either the 'Lion' (1910) or the 'Princess Royal' (1911). The date represented is between 11 February and 3 December 1918. Rosyth is on the left, the view being eastwards under the Forth bridge towards the North Sea. As the inscription indicates, this is a trial 'pull' of an etching marked for further work.
