Summary
[edit]DescriptionThe Trumpeter's Well - geograph.org.uk - 71199.jpg |
English: The Trumpeter's Well. This well lies at Caldermill, near Strathaven. During the covenanting period there was a skirmish involving the hated Claverhouse. Thomas Finlay, a farmer, stabbed Claverhouse's horse with his pike, injuring it. Claverhouse forced it onward, and at this spot he mounted another horse which had belonged to his trumpeter. The trumpeter was a lad of around 14 years of age. He was killed and tradition states that his body was disposed of in the well. |
