| Description |
English: The Trams Are Out Of Service - Again Tram tracks are relaid on the entry to Victoria Station. City-centre trackage on Metrolink (Manchester's tram system) has had to be relaid several times since opening, with considerable disruption to commuters. The contrast with the previous "heavy rail" services' reliability is noteworthy. On 17th September 2009, the Rail Accident Investigation Board reported following a major derailment in the city centre and concluded that prior to 2008, both GMPTE and the operators permitted trams to use track which was known to be "beyond any acceptable maintenance limits". It is understood that measures have been put in place since November 2008 to address the numerous process and safety issues raised in the report. This relaying is one of them. |
