om Belgrano (now a part of Buenos-Aires)to the Tigre, a well-known summer resort onthe Lujan River, that would also parallel asteam road and pass through a number of well-populated towns. It would be naturally a sum,merroad and should count on a good business from November to April. At the time this article iswritten, a large fire has justoccurred in the erecting andrepair shops of Boeker & Com-pany, of this city, who do mostof the assembling of new andrepair old cars for the varioustramway lines. Among thecars in these works at the timewere a large number of newLacroze electric cars that hadnot yet been put in service,some erected, some partiallyso, and a number still unboxed.In all, they lose about thirty-seven new cars. The QuilmesBrewery line also loses somecars. Advertising signs are fre-quently used on the outside ofthe cars, as is done in London, Berlin and Paris, butwhich are seldom seen in the United States. In the United States, when cars get bunched on a doubletrack system, the inspectors are accustomed to turn someback, using the first convenientcross-over for that purpose tocover the road and keep upsomething of the regular sched-ule. This is not practiced inthe streets of Buenos-Aires, be-cause of the excessive red tapenecessary to accomplish it andthe interference of the municipalauthorities. The result some-times is that great numbers ofcars belonging to the same lineare going in the same directionmore than half of them empty,while the return part of the sys-tem is uncovered, greatly to thedisgust and loss of patience onthe part of the traveling pub-lic and the frequent missing oftrain connections. If the present plans are con-summated, the existence of alarge part of it, if not all ofthe independent lines in Buenos-Aires, will soon be a matter ofhist
