nd of the galleries. In thebasement between the foundations of the two rows of gener-ating units are the condenser pumps and other auxiliary ma-chinery for the generating units. The high-tension buses,distant-control electrically operated oil switches and otherhigh-tension apparatus are installed in the basement in anisolated compartment partly under the south end of the gal- forced draft. Those boilers in the older portion of the planthave 6500 sq. ft. of heating surface, while the remainingeight are somewhat larger, having 7000 sq. ft. No econo-mizers are installed, but the boilers are provided with super-heaters consisting of five rows of 4-in. tubes which giveabout 60 degrees of superheat to the steam. The boilers areoperated at 160 lbs. pressure. The boiler steam gages, as wellas all of the other steam and vacuum gages in the plant, aregraduated from zero pressure absolute. This was done toeliminate the necessity of reducing pressures above the atmos- ;g^%i^%^.s:-^%^^:y^ii^^%^^^^
