There are thirty-fourboilers of 250 hp each, twenty-four of whichwere installed in 1893, when the station wasbuilt, and ten in 1898, when the Walker gen-erators were added. Twenty-four of theboilers were made by the Babcock & WilcoxCompany, and the remaining ten by theAultnian & Taylor Company, and are fur-nished with six economizers made by theGreen Fuel Economizer Company, of Mat-teawan, N. Y. The next largest station is the SouthernPower Station, situated at Fifty-SecondStreet and First Avenue, directly behind themain repair shops of the company. Thisstation was built1892, and is of asomewhat pecu-liar type. It con-tains six looo-hpcross - compoundcondensing Allisengines on themain floor, beltedto twelve GeneralElectric 400-kwfour-pole gener-ators placed onthe second floor.These engines oc-cupy floor spacerunning longitudi- this means the dynamo tenders can at all times see theengines on the main floor and be in easy communication
