line of thesystem connects the north andsouth half of Atlanta and crossesthe railroads over the new via-duct, previously mentioned,which is now nearing comple-tion. The l)id for the construc-tion of this viaduct, not includingthe part over the railroads forwhich the steam railroads them-selves pay, was $49,000, so thatthe city of Atlanta gained amuch-needed public improve-ment as well as a remainder of LAYING SPECIAL WORK viaduct over a dangerous gradecrossing, payment of taxes on afair valuation of its franchises,and ))romises of improvement inservice and equipment whichhave been rigidly adhered to inthe smallest detail, have gainedfor the company the hearty sup-port of the public as well asmany franchises from the CityCouncil for lines over thosestreets desired. The city had re-served the right to grant furtherfrancliises over any five con-tinuous blocks then occupied by a street railway. Being necessary to run partly on thestreets already taken by the tracks of the Atlanta Railway
