English: The Shell Fossil These beautifully preserved fossilised scallop shells are on display in the foyer of the Royal Festival Hall. They are from the Burdigalian Period and are about 18 million years old. They came from Apt in Provence and were donated by the Shell oil company, whose emblem is the scallop shell and whose headquarters building, the Shell Centre, is adjacent to the Royal Festival Hall. |
