Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The daughter of Sultan Muhammed Quli Qutb Shah, the 5th sultan, the wife of Sultan Muhammed Qutb Shah, the 6th sultan and the mother of Abdullah Qutb Shah, the 7th sultan, she was the most powerful woman of medieval Deccan, affectionately known as 'Ma Saheba'. Her tomb, constructed around 1616, is the only prominent tomb in the Qutb Shahi Tombs complex belonging to a woman. It has an adjoining mosque and a pond right at its entrance.

Her tomb that lies amidst other royal tombs at Ibrahim Bagh, Hyderabad has a surrounding arcade, pointed arches and an ornate dome that was once covered in green and turquoise tiles, built to Persian, Hindu, and Pathani styles of architecture. Inside the tomb, lies her Sarcophagus which is covered in a ruby pink funeral pall that is embroidered in gold. On the Sarcophagus, there are four apparent bands of inscription in the Naksh and Tauq scripts. Surrounding the sarcophagus, at the corners of the tomb are four open-ended right angled passageways that have exterior walls with hollow windows painted in umber brown, similar to her son's tomb which lies towards her east.

Being Sultan Muhammed Quli Qutb's only progeny, she lorded over affairs of the state, first as a princess, then consort and finally as the queen mother, exercising influence over both palace administration and public affairs. She now lies buried in the world's largest necropolis, amidst her father, husband and son, as she still continues to awe everyone who learns about her.
