English: Picture of railway taken from above, hidden in the mist between tall trees at Penang Hill or Bukit Bendera. (A hill resort comprising a group of peaks on Penang Island, Malaysia).
It is located within the Air Itam suburb, 9 km west of the center of George Town. Penang Hill is also known by the Malay name Bukit Bendera, which actually refers to Flagstaff Hill, the most developed peak. Penang Hill was the first colonial hill station developed in Peninsular Malaysia. Comprising Western Hill, Bukit Laksamana, Tiger Hill, Flagstaff Hill and Government Hill. The hilly and forested area is the state's primary hill resort. Set 821m above Penang’s capital, it is generally about five degrees cooler than Georgetown. It is the last patch of tropical rainforest in Penang so the flora and fauna here have been protected since 1960. |
