The prodigal son on the way to his father's deathbed

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Illustration for Chapter 1 of The Prodigal Son by Dutton Cook. Once a Week magazine, volume 6, page 449. In this chapter, Wilford Hadfield, disgraced, and shattered in mind and health, is returning after seven years, on his way to try to reach his father's bedside before his father dies. He stops at the local inn on the road, and asks for a large glass of brandy, neat. In the background, the locals are scrutinising him, interrupted in speculating about what caused the falling-out between Wilford and his father.
