Plate 1 from '24 Views in Indostan by William Orme'. This aquatint is based on a picture by Francis Swaine Ward (1736-1794). It shows a mosque which adjoined the palace of the Nawab of Arcot at Tiruchchirappalli, Tamil Nadu. This palace is no longer standing. Ward served in the East India Company's army during the late eighteenth century, whilst the Nawab of Arcot was allied with the British.
