Description
English: A Spotted Owlet Athene brama is looking at the camera. The Spotted Owlet is a small owl which breeds in tropical Asia from mainland India to southeast Asia. A common resident of open habitats including farmland and human habitation, it has adapted to living in cities. They roost in small groups in the hollows of trees or in cavities in rocks or buildings. It nests in a hole in a tree or building, laying 3–5 eggs. They are often found near human habitation. The species shows great variation including clinal variation in size and forms a superspecies with the very similar Little Owl.
বাংলা: খুঁড়ুলে পেঁচা (Athene brama), খোঁড়লে পেঁচা বা কোটরে পেঁচা স্ট্রিগিডি (Strigidae) গোত্র বা পরিবারের অন্তর্গত ক্ষুদ্রকায় এক প্রজাতির পেঁচা। সাধারণত গাছের কোটরে বা খোঁড়লে এরা বাসা করে বলেই এদের এমন নাম, তবে দালান-কোঠার ফাঁক-ফোকরেও বাসা করতে দেখা যায়। মানব বসতি বা কৃষিভূমির আশেপাশে এদের সাধারণ আবাস, শহরেও এরা নিজেদের রপ্ত করে নিয়েছে। বিগত কয়েক দশক ধরে এদের সংখ্যা কমে গেলেও আশঙ্কাজনক পর্যায়ে যেয়ে পৌঁছায় নি। সেকারণে আই. ইউ. সি. এন. খুঁড়ুলে পেঁচাকে Least Concern বা আশঙ্কাহীন প্রজাতি হিসেবে তালিকাভুক্ত করেছে।
