Summary
[edit]DescriptionThe Old Post House Lowthorpe.jpg |
English: The Old Post House, Lowthorpe, East Riding of Yorkshire, England. According to local sources, the post house and nearby railway station in this sleepy little village were a hive of activity in the early part of the 20th century. The post would be dropped off by the mail train at 7 every morning and then taken by horse and cart to the post house where it would be sorted and delivered by postmen on bicycles to the surrounding villages. The bicycles would return laden with outgoing mail which was put on the 6:20pm train bound for Hull. Lowthorpe Station opened on 6 October 1846 and closed on 5 January 1970. The Old Post House is now a private residence. |
