Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The Old Contemptibles, Birmingham Victorian pub on the corner of Livery Street and Edmund Street, refurbished in 2007. The pub was known as the Albion Hotel until 1953 when it was renamed in honour of a group of its regular customers. These men had been members of the original infantry divisions of the British Expeditionary Force sent to France in the First World War who called themselves the 'Old Contemptibles', after the German Kaiser apparently referred to them as 'Sir John French's contemptible little army'.
