English: The great war drum of the Ashanti in the palace of the Asantehene (Manhyia Palace) in Kumasi. It represents one of the state insignia of the Ashanti and was beaten in the past, only the proclamation of martial law or to the mobilization of the Ashanti army. The skulls come from kings, who had been defeated prior to the founding of the state in the battle. They are usually mounted on the drum.
