This city is built on the right bank of the Han, andthe north gate, and one or two small ones, open on to theriver when it is in flood, at other seasons there is a widestretch of sand between the few houses outside the gateand the waters edge. Boats often lie at the large suburboutside the west gate, as it is just along the bank by therivers side.
