Description
English: From noon till 9 pm, come rain or shine, this uncle also known as "Fei Zai" stood unwaveringly at his humble booth, endearing himself to the passersby. For over two decades, he had faithfully manned that very spot, becoming a cherished fixture in the neighborhood.

To my surprise, his wares were simple, comprising just a "Horse Betting" booklet and the Chinese newspaper "新明晚报" (Xin Ming Wan Bao), delivered promptly around 4 pm. Not a single magazine adorned his table, sparking my curiosity. With a mischievous glint in his eyes, he shared, "Magazines no longer hold appeal; everyone's moved online."

Each newspaper sold brought forth a modest gain, while the Horse Betting booklet proved more financially rewarding. Though Fei Zai's earnings provided a livelihood, the impending closure of Turf City cast a shadow of uncertainty over his primary source of income. It dawned on me that Fei Zai and his fellow newspaper street vendors represented a dwindling presence, a remnant of a bygone era in Singapore.
