outhink best. Not exactly that, said the man, looking un-easily at the thickeningclouds. We obey ordersjust as long as we pos-sibly can, and shut downwhen we have to—I dontlike the looks of things—see there! There was indeedcause for alarm. Greatbillowing thunder-headsfilled the sky to the south-east ; the air was close andhot, with hardly a breathstirring; the few vagrantpuffs of air seemed to befrom a furnace. Chain-lightning dartedthrough the mass androlling peals of thunder became continuous. A sickly green cast appearedin the heavens, and suddenly a cold breeze setin from the direction of the storm. I know of one thats going to hunt for cover, remarked the electrician. This does nt lookgood to me at all. All right; let s get back into some of thetents, and Fred started toward them. Not on your life! I said cover. I did nt mean a trap. Those tents 11 go over the firstthing. They 11 trap a pile of folks if they do. Fredstood looking at the crowds pouring into thetents and booths.
Text Appearing After Image:
. I - 9 -2.-1- COME ON! UP TOWN FOR US—HUSTLEI His friend started to run. Come on! Uptown for us—hustle! It was nearly a mile to the business part ofthe town, and before they made it the rain began. In here! gasped Fred, heading into the door-way of a church. They staggered in just as thefront of the storm struck with full force. Severalworkmen stood in the doorway, driven from theirwork of digging along the curb. 990 THE INVERSE TIME-LIMIT RELAY (Sept. ByGeorge! said Freds companion, a momentlater, this is a hummer—feel this building shake. Fred was peering into the smother of rain out-side. We got in just in time. This looks like yourhigh-tension line passing by here—is it? Sure, sixty thousand volts; its the main feederup the river. Right through the village? I d think theydmake you go around somewhere. It is nt reallysafe, is it? Sure it is! A deafening crash of thunderdrowned his words, and the wires on the polesglowed a moment. Traces of acrid smoke reachedtheir nostrils
