ll victimsto the U-boats. Among them was theStandard Oil steamer Healdton,which was torpedoed without warningoff the coast of Holland at 8:15 on theevening of March 21. The Healdtonsailed from Chester, Pa., with a cargoof refined petroleum . for Rotterdamand was within the so-called safetyzone when attacked. The torpedo struckthe illuminated sign marking the nameand nationality of the ship. Thirteenout of the forty-one composing her offi-cers and crew were Americans and ofthese seven were drowned or killed bythe explosion. Twenty lives were lostaltogther. The German sea-raider Mowe re-turned to a home port reporting thecapture of twenty-two steamers andfive sailing ships, chiefly British. Theiraggregate tonnage is 123,100. Thisbeats the record of the Mowes cruiseof last March, when she took fifteenvessels. The Mowe brought in 593prisoners. Her other captives had beensent in by the Japanese steamer Hud-son Maru to Pernambuco, Brazil, andin the Brtish steamer, Yarrowdale, to>Germany.
