(52003279650).jpg | Hawthorne Hotel 18 Washington Square West Salem, Massachusetts This postcard shows a view of the Hotel Hawthorne in Salem, Massachusetts, from near the Common. The description printed on the back reads as follows: "THE HAWTHORNE, SALEM, MASS., situated at the junction of Hawthorne Boulevard and Washington Sq., is in one of the most pleasing and advantageous location in the city. A distinct type, true to Colonial traditions, the finest tourist and commercial hotel between Boston and Portland. Operated by American Hotels Corporation. Herbert A. Brooks, Resident Manager." The message written not he back reads as follows: "Had a wonderful trip up by boat. Here overnight, leaving for Manchester in a few hours. Thought of you last night when we had a "read" shore dinner at Marblehead. Love, [?]" The card is postmarked 6:30 P. M., August 25, 1928, at Salem, Mass. It is addressed to Miss Mary P. Allen, District Building, Washington, D. C. |
