Summary
[edit]DescriptionThe Guildhall from church gardens. - geograph.org.uk - 417945.jpg |
English: The Guildhall from church gardens. This is one of the principal public buildings in the town. The first part of the building built in stone dates from 1539-41, and this was used as a prison house.
In 1577, the timber framed council chamber was built over it and an open arcade which served as a butter market.I remember it, as a child of the fifties,as the venue for getting dressed ready for the Carnival Queens float. |
