English: The Green Man at Crich Tramway Village He looks more brown than green, but this sculpture on the village's Woodland Walk & Sculpture Trail is of the Green Man. The official brochure says, "The origins of the Green Man are lost in time. A pre-Christian figure of legend, the guardian of the forest, the Green Man is variously portrayed as a benign, a paternal or even a menacing figure. We like to think that ours is a friendly old chap (who won't mind posing for photos)". That's all very well, but to be on the safe side, when posing for your photo try not to wake him up. |
