Summary
[edit]DescriptionThe Feuars' Muir - March Stone 10 - geograph.org.uk - 992367.jpg |
English: The Feuars' Muir - March Stone 10. For the main discussion of these stones, and for an index to the photographs, see 992179.
This was the last of the march stones that I located on this particular excursion, after finding stones 1 to 9 with the aid of a booklet on this topic written by Professor Rankin (see the link in the first paragraph). It proved to be the most difficult to find, since it was entirely overgrown with ferns. Fortunately, Professor Rankin's booklet includes a photograph of this stone that shows Cochno Hill, Greenside Reservoir, and some footpaths in the background. After using the map in his booklet to find the general area of the stone, it proved possible to narrow that area down to a few metres by matching my view to the one shown in his photo. Finally, trampling through the undergrowth in that area revealed the stone. I have cleared away some of the ferns to make the stone visible for the purposes of taking this photo. In the background is the peak of Cochno Hill. Though not visible in this photo because of the ferns, the southern end of Greenside Reservoir lies between the stone and the hill. I located stone 11 on a later occasion, during my second exploration of the area. Previous: 992233. Next: 1738747. |
