Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The Fast Flowing Holderness Drain, Hull, East Riding of Yorkshire, England.
Taken from the bridge on the A1033 Hedon Road looking northwards. At this point, the drain is less than a kilometre from its final destination of the River Humber. This waterway played a vital role in draining the flood water of late June 2007 from a large flat area of western Holderness. A 'tide mark' can be seen in the vegetation on the bank sides where the abnormally high water level reached. On this occasion, some two weeks after the deluge, the drain was still flowing at a very high rate of about 5mph (8kph) where it would normally be almost static (even at low tides) at this time of the year.
