Summary
[edit]DescriptionThe Cotton Famine Road - geograph.org.uk - 831598.jpg |
English: The Cotton Famine Road This road was constructed in the 1860s to alleviate the unemployment in the cotton industry caused by the Union's embargo on the export of cotton from the Confederacy during the American Civil War.
The construction method seems to have been similar to the Roman one of digging ditches and piling the earth into the middle. The war finished before the road was completed with any paving. |
