| Description | The oldest remaining restaurant in Sylva is The Coffee Shop, which has been located at this site since it’s early days. The restaurant, founded in 1926, was originally located in a wooden building located immediately in front of the current building, and attracted locals and travelers on US 19-23 alike, with home-style meals and breakfasts, which they are still known for. In 1955, the current building was constructed of concrete masonry units immediately behind the old wood-frame restaurant building, which was subsequently demolished to make way for the parking spaces in front of the current building. The restaurant has changed little over the years, save for the change in ownership and management, as well as the facing of the exterior with brick veneer sometime in the late 20th Century. Today, this classic diner is a local favorite and remains as the town’s oldest remaining eatery, a testament to the strength and resilience of the small rural town. |
