[edit]DescriptionThe Cedar Swamp - Bob's road. (6104078508).jpg |
If you look around you will notice the flavour of the fauna is changing. We are now passing out of Bob's hardwood bush and into the Cedar Swamp. Here, while the trees grow closer together they are not quite as tall. You see the trees here are early in the environmental scheme of things. The Cedars, Cottonwoods, Poplars and Alders arrive first and colonize the swamps by filling it with large roots. These roots eventually catch and hold soil allowing land to establish. Next come the softer woods the tall Pines and Maples and eventually the hardwoods, Ash and Beech and the like. But given time these magnificent trees cede the floor to the Firs which choke out all else and create first Tiaga, and then Boreal forests. Ecologically our forest is just starting to enter the transition to Tiaga... Why do you keep grinding your hands into your lap? Yes it is quite bumpy. I'd swear your eyes have a yellow tinge... |
