Lucius Gary was a great favorite of Gharles I. fromboyhood. As a matter of mere curiosity I record thefollowing. In 1614 Gaptain John Smith made a voyageto the New World. He made a map of the New Englandcoast which was tolerably correct under the circum-stances. This he presented to the king on his return.On this map were shown three or four islands just outof Boston harbor. Prince Gharles, who was then four-teen years old, amused himself by changing the uncouthIndian names to English ones, and named these islands Gary Isles for Lucius Gary. These are those that arenow known as the Brewsters.(60)
